CIAP Friday Member Spotlight: Giancarlo Iannotta, Multifamily Real Estate Broker

Giancarlo Iannotta, multifamily real estate broker and CIAP member

The CIAP Friday Member Spotlight is one way we celebrate the people who make our professional community special. Behind every business is a person with a story, often shaped by family, hard work, and a willingness to take a chance on a new direction. This week, we’re pleased to introduce Giancarlo Iannotta, a Chicago multifamily real estate broker whose path connects neighborhood buildings, creative work, and deep family roots in Molise.

From family renovation projects to multifamily real estate

Giancarlo grew up in the Chicagoland area, where his interest in real estate began with hands-on experience. More than a decade ago, he helped his father and uncle renovate and flip houses. That early exposure introduced him to the practical side of property: the work that goes into improving a home and the possibilities a building can hold.

Today, he specializes in multifamily and investment properties, helping clients sell apartment buildings, including high-value properties. CIAP’s member profile describes his work with multifamily properties, while Mo2 Properties lists him as a broker. The firm’s brokerage services focus on residential and multi-unit properties across Chicagoland.

There’s another distinctive part of Giancarlo’s professional toolkit: before real estate, he worked in commercial film and video. That creative background still serves him in his brokerage work. CIAP’s profile notes that he produces photography and video of clients’ properties, including drone footage. It’s a useful reminder that career skills don’t always follow a straight line. Sometimes experience from one field becomes the thing that helps you stand out in another.

A creative career with roots in Molise

Giancarlo’s professional story also includes a feature film inspired by his Italian heritage. His father immigrated to Chicago from Castel San Vincenzo, a small town in Molise. Giancarlo first visited the town at age 12, an experience that stayed with him.

After graduating from Columbia College Chicago, he made short films and moved to Rome in 2014 to pursue filmmaking and commercial work while studying Italian. In 2016, he wrote the screenplay for My Country, a feature film about two brothers, one American and one Italian, who meet as adults and travel through southern Italy.

The film’s journey through Molise gave Giancarlo a chance to share the region’s landscape, communities, food, and culture. In a Fra Noi interview, he explained that he wanted to shine a light on Molise and the Molisani people, especially in response to the familiar joke, “Il Molise non esiste”: “Molise doesn’t exist.” The film says otherwise, with affection and a sense of humor.

The story is personal, but it isn’t a documentary of his life. As Giancarlo explained in the interview, the film’s plot is fictional. Its connection to his family comes through the setting, the people who helped bring it to life, and the desire to celebrate a place that matters to him. It’s a lovely example of how heritage can inspire creative work without needing to tell every detail literally.

Milestones built through persistence

Giancarlo’s work across film and real estate reflects a willingness to learn by doing. Making a feature film meant taking on a range of responsibilities, and in real estate, he brought his visual production experience into a business where presentation matters. Both paths call for preparation, adaptability, and collaboration.

CIAP’s October 2023 member profile highlighted two notable real estate milestones from the end of 2022: Giancarlo had closed the sale of a 26-unit Jackson Park building for more than $3 million, and he was overseeing development of a luxury 12-unit apartment building in Humboldt Park. These are dated achievements reported in that profile, and they offer a snapshot of his work at the time.

His community involvement is another part of the picture. CIAP’s profile notes his participation in the Knights of Columbus and the Alzheimer’s Association. Professional success matters, of course, but so does making room to contribute to the people and organizations around you.

What future generations can take from his journey

We don’t want to put words in Giancarlo’s mouth or present these lessons as a direct quote from him. But his path offers a few thoughtful takeaways for anyone building a career:

  1. Start with the experience you can get. Helping family renovate homes gave Giancarlo an early, practical introduction to real estate. You don’t need to know your whole career plan before you begin learning.
  2. Bring your whole skill set with you. His film and video background became an asset in property marketing. Skills from a previous job, hobby, or course may prove valuable in a way you didn’t expect.
  3. Stay curious about the place you serve. Giancarlo’s creative work brought attention to Molise; his brokerage work focuses on Chicagoland properties. Local knowledge and a connection to place can shape work with purpose.
  4. Let family and heritage be sources of inspiration. His connection to Castel San Vincenzo informed a creative project that introduced audiences to a region he cares about. Our backgrounds can help us tell meaningful stories and build relationships.

These ideas can apply whether you’re entering real estate, growing a small business, exploring a creative field, or deciding what comes next. Progress isn’t always a perfectly straight road, and that’s all right. Sometimes the scenic route teaches you something useful.
